Interbank Transfers in Indonesia: Types of Services and Fees You Should Know

biaya transfer antar bank

Have you ever needed to transfer money to a friend, family member, or pay for something—but the recipient’s account was at a different bank? That’s what’s known as an interbank transfer.

Even though transfers are now incredibly easy—via mobile banking, ATMs, or internet banking—fees still apply, and they vary depending on the service and bank you use. To avoid surprises when your balance gets deducted, let’s take a closer look at the types of interbank transfer services in Indonesia and their associated fees, especially among major banks.

Types of Interbank Transfer Services in Indonesia

Before comparing bank fees, it’s important to understand the most commonly used interbank transfer services.

BI-FAST

BI-FAST is an interbank transfer system developed by Bank Indonesia. Its biggest advantage is speed—transactions are processed in real time, with funds received within seconds.

BI-FAST operates 24/7, including weekends and public holidays. Best of all, the fee is very affordable: IDR 2,500 per transaction. Fast, economical, and convenient.

SKN (National Clearing System)

SKN is suitable for larger transfers when you’re not in a hurry. Unlike BI-FAST, SKN transactions are not instant. Funds usually arrive within 2–3 business hours and are only processed on business days (Monday–Friday).

If you transfer outside operating hours, the transaction will be processed on the next business day. The good news is that SKN fees are still relatively low, typically IDR 2,900 – IDR 3,500, depending on the bank.

RTGS (Real Time Gross Settlement)

RTGS is used for very large-value transfers, usually above IDR 100 million. Transactions are processed in real time but only during bank operating hours (generally until 3:00 or 4:00 PM).

This service is commonly used by businesses or corporate clients. Fees are higher—around IDR 25,000 to IDR 30,000 per transaction—making RTGS unsuitable for everyday transfers.

Regular Online Transfer (Non-BI-FAST)

If you often transfer funds via ATM, internet banking, or mobile banking without selecting BI-FAST, you’re likely using the regular interbank transfer service. Transfers are real-time, but because they don’t use BI-FAST infrastructure, the fees are higher—usually IDR 6,500 – IDR 7,500 per transaction.

This option is still widely used, especially if your bank or app doesn’t support BI-FAST yet. Always check the transfer method before confirming to manage costs wisely.
